Connect India, a Bengaluru-based start-up in logistics space, is building a new model wherein it is helping e-commerce firms reach out to smaller towns and rural areas using common service centres (CSCs) and well local kirana stores. This was a special purpose vehicle formed by the Government of India.

Implemented under the National e-Governance Plan, formulated by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), CSCs help people in rural areas avail various e-governance services, hassle-free. There are about 130,000 CSCs active across the country.

Connect India which is expanding extensively since its launch, creating a network of over 3500 Connect India Centers(CICs) providing access to 2,500 unique pin-codes.

Logistics is the backbone of the economy, providing the efficient, cost effective flow of goods on which other commercial sectors depend. The logistics industry in India is evolving rapidly and it is the interplay of infrastructure, technology and new types of service providers that will define whether the industry is able to help its customers reduce their logistics costs and provide effective services.

Delhi-based Connect India, an e-commerce logistics firm, has raised Rs 32 crore from Aavishkaar Venture Management Services which is India’s biggest social entrepreneurship-focused venture capital fund.

Connect India is expected to use the proceeds from the round of funding to launch its commercial operations in 17 States, 150 towns and cities, with 1,500 Connect India Centres in rural and urban markets.

The startup has already carried out successful trials of e-commerce deliveries, across rural India, in areas that are yet to be served or connected through online commerce initiatives.
